From ancient to modern times, salt has played a key role in our ecosystem, taking various forms from ‘crystal-clear’ rock salt to ‘dissolved’ salt in the sea. Salt has also profoundly enriched human thoughts and inspired their creativity. Art can provide essential opportunities to deepen the relationship between people and salt, exploring ecological perspectives for the future. The project culminates in the exhibition of Motoi Yamamoto. Embracing sculptural-drawing techniques with the material of salt, he creates meticulous yet impressive patterns, titled Labyrinth or Floating Garden. The consequence can be ‘crystal-clear’ as common ideas to be shared or might be ‘dissolved’ in the fluidity of varied potentials. Photo: ©︎ Motoi Yamamoto.
